About

Portrait of Ash Rahal

I'm Ash, short for Ashraf, a senior product designer based in Berlin. I've been designing since 2013, mostly software where the hard part is a complex workflow: trading, tax logbooks, fleet telematics, QR codes, and now AI.

I've designed products for Bitly, Vimcar and NAGA. More recently I've been building my own products, Sova and JobCracker. Both are about the same question: how an AI product earns trust when it can be wrong.

I tend to start from what people actually do rather than what they say they want, and I try to be clear about which of my decisions are backed by evidence and which are still bets.

Teaching and mentoring

I enjoy mentoring and speaking: academy classes, Google design sprints, workshops and design meetups.

Off the clock

When I’m not designing, I’m with my family or gaming, including with my son. I also read manga and watch anime, old school and new.
